This Sunbonnet Girl Heritage quilt blocks were created in 1980 by women across the USA who were the winners of a contest that was held by Patricia Ferguson Mensinger. The quilt was pieced by Patricia Mensinger and hand quilted by Ruth Henderson and Velma Baff of Colfax, WA. Quilt was donated by Lauri McLaughlin of Spokane, Washington. An article about the quilt and its creaters was in "Quilt Magazine" winter 1982.
There are 49 blocks 11-1/4" square set 7 x 7 with 2" red sashing, border on 4 sides 3-1/4" red, various Sunbonnet Sue blocks doing various activities all sizes and shapes, embroidery includes flowers, chickens, outline, satin stitch, running stitch. Edge finish is 3/8" bias, double fold, machine on top, hand back, rounded corners. Backing is red poly-cotton. Embellishments include ribbons, braids, yo-yos, rick-rack, laces, three blocks are pieced. Some stuffed applique.
